We are the licensed operator of the Hills Horizon Community Garden in Spearfish. The Garden is located on East Elgin Street at "Red Hill Park".
The Garden was conceived as a meeting place for the community as well as a way to give residents the opportunity to grow their own garden using pre-built, easy access garden sites.
We broke ground in spring 2010 starting with the eight foot deer fence. By the end of summer we had 15 four foot by ten foot member plots in place. In spring 2011 water facilities were installed and the first plots were planted!
We have partnered with the Spearfish Recreation Center and built two large plots that are used for the summer Rec program. This program gives children the opportunity to experience the excitement of planting and watching a garden grow. In addition, the Rec Center provides a Master Gardener to enrich the experience.
Plans for the future include a permaculture demonstration garden, mulch walkways, herb gardens, shade structure/tool shed and more member plots.
